David Gates is the son of missionary parents. He is an ordained minister with degrees in nursing, software engineering, and business administration. He also is a professional pilot and aviation mechanic. He has served as a missionary in many countries including, Peru, Mexico, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela.

David founded Gospel Ministries International in 2000 in order to develop and administer medical aviation, education, and broadcasting projects around the world. As a speaker, David communicates his trust in God and passion for volunteer service on the front lines of mission work.

David is married to Rebecca (Duerksen) with whom he grew up as missionary kids in Bolivia. They have three daughters and two sons.
