Ray Minner is a mentor and encourager of young people who maintains e-mail contact with many of his former students. He has taught elementary school and served as vice principal of the large A. W. Spalding Elementary School in Collegedale, Tennessee. Now he teaches English at Collegedale Academy. He and his wife, Laurie, who conducts the local symphony orchestra, recently adopted a teenage son, Caleb.
