Rose Otis

After fifteen years as a stay-at-home mother of two, Rose Otis began her professional career in the Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1978 at the Review and Herald as Director of Public Relations. She and her husband were heavily involved in coordinating the building of a new publishing facility in Hagerstown, Maryland, moving the Review and Herald Publishing Association from it's original location in Takoma Park, Maryland, in 1983.

Beginning in 1986 the Otis' represented the General Conference in the former Soviet Union for four years, making 22 trips to the USSR, working with church and government leaders to open doors for the Adventist Church. Rose related some of their inspiring, God-lead experiences the Otis' were privileged to be part of in her book entitled Soviet Sonrise.

In 1990, Rose was elected to serve as the first General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist's Women's Ministries Director in a budding new area of the Church. She spent six years traveling to every continent assisting in organizing Women's Ministries in 12 of the world divisions. It was during this time that the women's devotional books began. She edited the first six editions.

In the fall of 1996 she was invited to serve as a vice-president of the North American Division. And for the next two years she was responsible for overseeing thirteen ministries of the Church, including Women's Ministries.

At the close of 1998 Rose, and her pastor husband, made their last move in denominational work when they both accepted calls to the Texas Conference. Here Rose served as the first conference vice-president until her husband's retirement at the close of 2000.

Currently, she hopes to do some writing and accepts some speaking appointments on a freelance basis. For the first time in more than two decades she is enjoying a more balanced lifestyle. The Otis' live in Northern Virginia near their son and daughter and grandchildren. They enjoy gardening and water sports.
