Shalem was formed in Berrien Springs, Michigan in September 1992 with the purpose of creating a vocal musical group to minister to Hispanic congregations. During the last five years their ministry has reached cities such as New York, Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, Cleveland, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. In addition, they have been featured on 3ABN and WKNPR-TV in Puerto Rico.

Shalem's current and long-term goals include spreading the gospel through their music and promoting the composition of original Christian music by Seventh-day Adventists to the whole Christian world.
