Summer Church
"Summer Church is four committed Christians who have dedicated their music to witnessing for the Lord. The group traces its origin to early 1992, when musician friends Tom Macomber and Dick Walker decided to witness to non-Christian studio musicians by using their help in recording a gospel CD. Dick and Tom's vision was to expose these musicians to Jesus by having them assist on Spirit-filled songs, and let the music do the talking." Summer Church: Gospel Songs for Fiddle and Banjo was the end result.
Released by Walkin' on Water Records in 1994, this CD has been an international best seller. Faced with many requests to perform, Dick and Tom approached Christian musicians Pete Lorentz and Wes Knox, who share a love for Jesus and the desire to witness for Him, and the band Summer Church was formed.
Their follow-up CD, Walkin' on Water, was released in 1996. Blessed by even more success than the first, its instrumental version of "Church in the Wildwood" became an international radio hit. With a lineup featuring fiddle, banjo, guitar, and bass, Summer Church presents a wonderful mix of gospel bluegrass, swing, country, and contemporary acoustic music. With its members sharing over 100 years combined playing music professionally, Summer Church brings an exciting, dedicated performance that includes old favorites, seldom-heard gems, and original compositions. This group offers something for every age group.
Wes Knox is an accomplished jazz guitarist and has received national attention for his work in the recording studio. His innovative guitar playing is an integral part of the Summer Church sound.
Pete Lorentz grew up in a musical home and first toured nationally as a country musician in 1966. Equally adept at bluegrass, swing, and country music, his bass playing is the heart of Summer Church.
Tom Macomber is a highly-regarded record producer and recording consultant. He also has played gospel banjo for many years, performing with bands based out of Oregon and California.
Dick Walker plays fiddle full-time and is in demand for recording sessions and live performances. He has performed with groups as diverse as the Moody Blues, Ray Charles, and Natalie Cole.
Together, these four Christian men will uplift your spirit and set your toes to tapping with music that is played to God's glory and conveys their love for Him."
