“Jesus Loves Me, This I Know, For the Bible Tells Me So.” Kids sing it, why can’t we believe it?

Description / Sure Salvation

'Jesus Loves Me, This I Know, For the Bible Tells Me So.'

Kids sing it, why can’t we believe it?

Sometimes it seems that the badge of membership in the Seventh-day Adventist Church is a gnawing uncertainty about our relationship with Christ and our salvation. Do we really think the evidence that we’ve reached the pinnacle of sanctification is to be found in the fact that we haven’t the foggiest notion whether or not we’d be ready if Christ came today?

Such notions are preposterous. But Phil Dunham knows from years of pastoral experience that for too many among us, these thoughts are very real.

The devil delights to have us unsure of our salvation. Lacking that, he convinces us that we’re “home free” and nothing we do now counts—“once saved, always saved.” Either way, we are deluded.

Our salvation is sure in Christ. Our Savior is our only source of salvation. The purpose of this book is not to comfort the sinners in Zion, nor to wink at known sin. God forbid!
It is written so you can experience what flawed people throughout Christian history have experienced—the assurance that every believer can and should have—in the “Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”  Read this book and find the peace and joy Christ died to give you.

The author confronts two verses: "And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. " (I John 5:11, 12), and "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect." (Matt. 5:48). We should be able to accept these two verses, and in order to accept them, we need to study them, and we will found out that there is no contradiction between them. The author wants us to have the assurance of salvation; not a false assurance, but "the joy of your salvation" (Psal. 51:12).
