Michael G. Hasel, Ph.D. is Director of the Institute of Archaeology and reaches archaeology at Southern Adventist University. He has excavated worldwide with institutions including Harvard University and the University of Arizona. When he is not digging or being interviewed by National Geographic, he enjoys skiing, hiking, and traveling.
Southern Adventist University is one of only two institutions worldwide to offer a bachelor's degree in archaeology taught from a Christian biblical perspective. Students may choose from two emphases for an undergraduate degree, Near Eastern studies and Classical studies. In 2004, Southern opened the award-winning Lynn H. Wood Archaeological Museum which houses an extensive collection of art and objects from Egypt, Babylonia, Persia, and Syria-Palestine spanning 3,500 years of history. The Institute of Archaeology sponsors annual Middle East study tours and excavations. Research facilities include a laboratory and an extensive library which archives journals, books and 15,000 slides.
