Description / The Race

Take an unforgettable journey with The Race, an experience that leaves readers changed and challenged to stay the course and trust the One who set the path before us. This is more than a great allegory in the tradition of Pilgrim’s Progress. It's a life experience that will challenge your concept of following Jesus with all your heart.

If he’d been feverish and delirious, Chris Strider could never have imagined that he’d end up in jail, charged with assault, rape, and murder—crimes he hadn’t actually committed.

Sixteen months ago the race had seemed like a great idea—a way to honor his heritage, a welcome break from the strange uneasiness he’d felt upon learning that he’d been awarded a full scholarship for which he hadn’t even applied. All 22-year-old Chris had to do was finish the 6,000-mile race sponsored by the world’s wealthiest man, Doug Damour. The carrot? He’d inherit Damour’s fortune. Just for finishing.

And yet, 16 months ago, he’d had no idea that Stan Moden, the world’s second-wealthiest man, was determined to force him out of the race—to destroy him, really—using any means necessary. He’d been blissfully unaware of so many things then. Now it looked as though Moden was going to eliminate him after all.

At the beginning of the race, however, Damour had sent his son, Josh, a legendary trainer, to coach Chris. Josh had saved him from Moden’s nasty schemes multiple times, and Chris had learned to trust his coach implicitly. But trust certainly couldn’t be enough to save him from a swift, sure death sentence. Or had Josh really meant what he said? “I’ll do everything I can.”

Amazing story everyone should read!!!

This book is about the metaphor of the Christian life. It makes you reflect on your own existence. It acts as a mirror and makes you see yourself in the characters, and in the various situations throughout the book. The character of Christ as he runs the race showed me to always put my trust in Jesus and in his promises. It also helps you identify your flaws and shows you the way to fix them through Jesus Christ. The novel encourages you to read the Bible and also shows the importance of prayer. The Race gives you the tools to navigate throughout this modern age. This story helped me look toward God when the attacks of this world endanger your soul.

JUST FINISH IT...
Review by
The allegory is obvious early on, which generated some skepticism at first. It gets better, and the book's complexities make the reading engaging and credible. You may want to read the spoiler alert at the end of the book first, if you are one of those people who needs to know that the story will end well, or if you become disturbed with theological implications which cloud your willingness to read on. For me, this book was a lot like William Young's "The Shack," but clearer and more complex in its references to scripture and to developing relationships both romantic and spiritual. All that protagonist Chris needs to do to "win" his prize is to finish the race; the same can be said for the book. Put your doubts and questions on hold, and just finish it. Your investment in time will not be wasted.

I am in my late 60s and have walked with the Lord all the years. This is such a refreshing book about the real battle that is going around us all the time. It is written in verbage that the current generation can relate to. I highly recommend it to all.

The Race by Della Loredo

This story is a powerful allegory of the Great Controversy between Christ and Satan, Christ's death and the Plan of Redemption. Chris, the main character, sets out to run the race of his life. Along the way, he encounters many temptations just as we do in our own lives. With his transmitter in place and his coach Josh at his side, it appears that Chris should be able to run a smooth race. I won't say more as I don't want to give away the story. I will say that the characters in this story are compelling. Stan and Camille as arch enemies are particularly evil. The story wasn't a fast read for me because I found myself doing a lot of reflecting and thinking. The action is intense. It's a book that's hard to put down once started. It is also a story that stays with you long after you have finished the reading. Della captures the intensity of Chris' life & death struggle to complete the race. Della is a master story teller. I would definitely recommend reading this book.

The Race

With clear and cultured use of language, Loredo transports the reader to an adventure that to some readers might appear, at first glance, both fiction and realism. The author has the ability to weave her story in a way that the reader can clearly see her vision of the world, from a philosophical/christian point of view, and at the same time, demonstrate her complete dominion of the topic.
Although she situates her characters, and the lessons she wants to send in her work, in a contemporary scenario, its important to note that they are so very well portrait as timeless icons.

For the reader I dare say that her work,in this field, will become a "classic"and a great contribution to both christian teachings and literature in general.

Excellent work!!! Brava!!
