Description / African American Seventh-day Adventist Healers in a Multicultural Nation

The book you are about to read brings together facets of a narrative of epic proportions. It tells about the experience of black Seventh-day Adventists amid the painful history of racial and social discrimination; it chronicles their struggles and showcases their love for their church and fellow human beings and the profound influence of their faith.

The authors of this collection of essays write with deep knowledge of the history, theology, and the spiritual journey, which has proved that it is better to heal than to hurt, to hold onto hope over despair, and to spread love instead of hate.

You will read from or about medical doctors, a world-renowned chaplain, courageous women, distinguished scholars, skillful administrators, civil rights defenders—preachers, and healers, all in wonderful tune with the restorative gospel of Jesus. In the words of the introduction, these eight essays “affirm the reality that African Americans have been healed by ‘something better.’”

"African American Seventh -day Adventist Healers in a Mutliculutral Society" is a gem. It depicts the journey and challenges that African American have had. I am personally a recipient of being influenced by a Seventh-day Adventist elder who encouraged me to send my daughter to a Seventh-day Adventist School. At one point I was not aware of the impact that the Seventh-day Adventist Church offered. After being ministered to by Mr. & Mrs .Patterson who own the first Black Vegetarian Restaurant in Philadelphia, PA my life changed completely. The Patterson's healed through consistent love, words, deeds, food both spritual/physical.
Dr. Hyman & Dr. Lampkin's book is rich in imagery and details of the life chahging aspects that Seventh-day African American Healers bring to the table. Their book is well written, concise and detailed. It is an amazing read. I would reccomend this book to anyone that wants to be enlightened about our journey as "Healers ". We ,( African American Seventh -day Adventist) no longer have to look outside of ourselves but now we can look within and see the contributions that our "Healers" have made.
