Leaning on God's Heart

Even before they know the radical treatment that will be required, Carolyn and Jim fall into each other’s arms, weeping. “It’s going to be OK because God is in control,” they remind each other. But they both know that God’s OK may not be the same as theirs.

He is too wise to make a mistake; too good to be unkind.

Her body almost destroyed, her white blood cell count down to almost nothing, she comes to the place where death is welcome. Alone in her isolation unit, she puts her life in God’s hands—again. Going to sleep, she doesn’t know if she’ll awaken to one of the nurses—or to the resurrection. Either option is OK.

During our soul’s darkest night, His sustaining heartbeat perpetuates in us that refrain of constant renewal: Yes, Jesus loves me!

Sooner or later, everyone faces a “cancer” in their life. It may not be intraductal carcinoma or non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. It may be infertility. The aftermath of an abusive childhood. The death of a loved one. An eroding financial crisis. Divorce. Alzheimer’s. The aging process. We are all reeling from the physical, emotional, and spiritual side effects of the cancer of sin and its cruelty. The ultimate choice is Do we turn away from God--or run to Him?

When nothing is left, you still have God. When stripped of everything, God remains. Only God can make a real difference.
